I Hittin' The Trail Fellers

It's time for that annual escape from the man cave to become one with the wilderness and discover that inner caveman in all male members of our species. So look out all you critters...Along with the rest of us, there will be many untrained and unprepared rookies out there on the hunting trail this month. Be prepared to duck!

The Battle For Our Future Starts Here

John Adams and Thomas Jefferson are deleted from the textbooks, while the creation of the Sierra Club and the National Organization of Womyn is celebrated in earnest. George Washington's farewell address is deleted. All references to Thomas Edison, the Wright brothers, other American entrepreneurs , and examples of exceptionalism / individualism have been eliminated from the classroom. The Soviet Union is praised to no end for their space program, while the US moon landings are not even mentioned. Convicted traitors to our nation are given a pardon in mock trials conducted in our classrooms.

The Communists rewrite history all the time, with grand flourishes and straight faces. And many American liberals do too.

First it was California, which recently mandated public schools to inflate -- incorporate, they say -- the contributions of homosexuals to California state history and United States history. This indoctrination begins as young as kindergarten and, according to Tim Donnelly, a Republican state lawmaker, essentially forbids the educational system to portray homosexuals "in anything other than a positive light."

And in L.A., the school board is pushing its schools to go even further, including direct efforts to "promote" homosexuality, portraying it as a normal variant of family life ("family diversity," they say). The role of homosexuals will be exaggerated in every subject across the curriculum.

New York will follow suit, no doubt, as their new homosexual 'marriage' law has generated a push by gay advocates for a similarly "inclusive" curriculum. It's nothing more than sexual indoctrination dressed up as history. Bringing the homosexual message into the curriculum aims, in the words of gay City Council member Daniel Dromm, to prevent society from "putting LGBT people in the closet."

In Massachusetts, however, it's real history that's being shoved into the closet.

A Somerville, Massachusetts public school principal, for instance, has banned the celebration of Columbus Day and Thanksgiving, calling them American "atrocities" parading under the guise of historical holidays. Her decision, motivated by a desire to spare students and school personnel the pain of feeling insulted by the celebrations, further distorts history at the expense of ever-growing victim groups...

"We are fighting for our children's education and our nation's future," Cynthia Dunbar said. "In Texas we have certain statutory obligations to promote patriotism and to promote the free enterprise system. There seems to have been a move away from a patriotic ideology. It’s all a matter of perception. Fortunately, homeschooling is legal in all 50 states. Yet, since education is regulated by the states, requirements vary dramatically from state to state for homeschoolers. The difference ranges from complete freedom with no requirements to forced curriculum and achievement tests.
  • States requiring no notice: No state requirement for parents to initiate any contact
  • States with low regulation: State requires parental notification only.
  • States with moderate regulation: State requires parents to send notification, test scores, and/or professional evaluation of student progress.
  • State with high regulation: State requires parents to send notification or achievement test scores and/or professional evaluation, plus other requirements (e.g. curriculum approval by the state, teacher qualification of parents, or home visits by state officials). (Source: HSLDA).
The 10 freest states for homeschooling are in green and listed below:
  1. Alaska
  2. Connecticut
  3. Idaho
  4. Illinois
  5. Indiana
  6. Michigan
  7. Missouri
  8. New Jersey
  9. Oklahoma
  10. Texas
People homeschool their children for many different reasons and they should have the right to opt out of any standardized curriculum. Unfortunately this is not the case in most states. But for those who are interested in homeschooling with the ultimate freedom to unschool if they choose, the ten states above are your best locations...Read More at Activist Post

This is for you Texans out there who have a huge effect on what is put in, or taken out, of our textbooks.

Sign the petition to help protect our children’s education!
At The Liberty Institute

For over a year, Texans have been speaking out against attempts to remove or diminish important historical figures, celebrations, concepts and symbols like:

  • Neil Armstrong
  • Albert Einstein
  • Christmas
  • Independence Day
  • The Liberty Bell
  • Religious Heritage
Thank God a majority of the SBOE rightly struck down such misguided versions of history. Without the elected Board, these important figures would have been removed from social studies for the next 10 years.

But the fringe left still wants to destroy the SBOE’s role as a voice on education standards. Why? Because they want unlimited control over what students learn, to radically change the worldview of our next generation by distorting history.

The review process began over a year ago, but now liberal academia, the ACLU and some political candidates want the State Board of Education to delay the final vote on social studies standards from May 21, 2010 until January 2011 -- after the November elections -- and one State Senator wants to abolish the SBOE and take away your vote!

Stand up for Texas education -- sign the petition now:

  1. I oppose the attempted takeover of education by the extreme left
  2. I support final adoption of social studies standards on May 21, 2010, as scheduled
  3. I support a State Board of Education that has members elected by the public

The Curley Effect

I presume that most of you have heard of the Cloward-Pivin strategy of wealth destruction and the rise of the Communist state. What I have discovered here is a plan that has been in place in American cities for decades. In yesterday's post I showed how the Chicago style of rule was being installed nationwide. This is an extremely far reaching plan that has been in enacted by Democrats and will definitely "curl your hair". I have reposted this Forbes article here in it's entirety, as I feel this to be of major importance going forward...if it is not too late already.

It’s hard to think of anything more perverse in American politics than the Curley effect. The Curley effect historically has been an urban phenomenon, but President Obama seems bent on taking the entire country down this wretched path.

As defined by Harvard scholars Edward L. Glaeser and Andrei Shleifer in a famous 2002 article, the Curley effect (named after its prototype, James Michael Curley, a four-time mayor of Boston in the first half of the 20th century) is a political strategy of “increasing the relative size of one’s political base through distortionary, wealth-reducing policies.”

Translation: A politician or a political party can achieve long-term dominance by tipping the balance of votes in their direction through the implementation of policies that strangle and stifle economic growth. Counterintuitively, making a city poorer leads to political success for the engineers of that impoverishment.

Here’s an example of how the Curley effect works: Let’s say a mayor advocates and adopts policies that redistribute wealth from the prosperous to the not-so-prosperous by bestowing generous tax-financed favors on unions, the public sector in general, and select corporations. These beneficiaries become economically dependent on their political patrons, so they give them their undivided electoral support—e.g., votes, campaign contributions, and get-out-the-vote drives.

Meanwhile, the anti-rich rhetoric of these clever demagogues, combined with higher taxes to fund the political favors, triggers a flight of tax refugees from the cities to the suburbs. This reduces the number of political opponents on the city’s voter registration rolls, thereby consolidating an electoral majority for the anti-wealth party. It also shrinks the tax base of the city, even as the city’s budget swells. The inevitable bankruptcy that results from expanding expenditures while diminishing revenues can be postponed for decades with the help of state and federal subsidies (“stimulus” in the Obama vernacular) and creative financing, but eventually you end up with cities like Detroit—called by Glaeser and Shleifer “the first major Third World city in the United States.”

The Curley effect is extensive. Perhaps you have seen the chain e-mail listing the ten poorest U.S. cities with a population of at least 250,000: Detroit, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Miami, St. Louis, El Paso, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and Newark. Besides all having poverty rates between 24 percent and 32 percent, these cities share a common political factor: Only two have had a Republican mayor since 1961, and those two (Cincinnati and Cleveland) haven’t had one since the 1980s. Democratic mayors have had a lock on City Hall despite these once-great and prosperous cities stagnating on their watch. This is the Curley effect in action.

Let me comment on the city on that list that I know the best—Detroit. (I grew up a few miles from its city limits.) In the 1920s, Detroit was arguably the richest city in the world. Today it is broke—a shadow of its former self after 51 years of Democratic hegemony and a Curley-like agenda.

I’m going to say something provocative that leftists will surely quote out of context, but it needs to be said: Detroit was a lot better off in the 1950s, when the city funded one of the best zoos in the country but had not yet built today’s gravy train for favored segments of the human population. Detroit’s decline has paralleled a shift toward funding far fewer zoo animals and far more human beings.

Critics may take this to mean that I value animals more than people. On the contrary, it is because I value humans more than animals that I find the policy shift to be morally offensive in addition to being so obviously destructive economically. It is bad enough to see a trapped lion carrying 80 pounds of flab that a lion in the wild would never have, but why would you reduce human beings to a similarly pathetic dependency? The bars that ensnare humans behind the economic and psychological cages of the government dole may not be physical, but it is pathetic to see people reduced to lives of unproductive idleness and despair, all in the name of “compassion” and, of course, for the sake of cementing Democratic mayors in office.

What is most troublesome about the Curley effect is that it is spreading beyond its historical setting of cities. Entire states—most notably our most populous, California—are manifesting all the symptoms of the Curley effect: Democrats enjoying electoral hegemony; businesses and middle-class individuals, more Republican than Democratic, emigrating to states with less oppressive tax regimes; reduced job opportunities; a budget careening toward bankruptcy.

The ultimate political prize for the Democrats, of course, would be to control the national government. (Note: Yes, I know that technically we have a “federal” government, but if Big Government Democrats find a way to forge a permanent majority, you can kiss the last vestiges of federalism goodbye.)

Everything Obama has done has been designed to strengthen Democratic constituencies (e.g., stimulus spending steered predominantly toward unions and strategically allied state and municipal entities; waivers from Obamacare for unions; a hefty 23 percent increase in the Index of Dependence on Government during Obama’s first two years) and to weaken Republican constituencies (e.g., making small business formation more difficult by impeding venture capitalists; refusing to amend Sarbanes-Oxley; using Dodd-Frank regulations to discourage loans; fewer waivers from Obamacare; proposing lower tax rates for large corporations, but not on the “S” corporations that are the preferred choice of small business owners; constant efforts to raise taxes on the “rich”—which means, as we’ve seen in Detroit, California, and other Curley effect victims, higher taxes on the middle class).

Obama’s smash-mouth, Curley-like politics is all about choosing winners and losers. Reread his State of the Union address from January, and you see a parade of proposals to take from A to give to B, to encourage businesses to do C and discourage them from doing D. Indeed, Obama seems incapable of suggesting a single economic policy that does not redistribute wealth from his political opponents to his political allies. The message is clear: He wants Americans to be dependent on the government; consequently, he is hostile to the private sector, because a vibrant private sector enhances economic independence and self-reliance.

If Obama and his fellow progressives succeed in applying the Curley strategy on the national level, Americans will no longer be able to move to a new city or state to escape the withering economic impact of Curley-effect policies; their only option would be to leave the country.

However, it appears that Obama has anticipated that response. To close the escape hatch from an Obama-Curley American, the president signed the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act that mandates closer monitoring of Americans’ offshore accounts. apparently approves of policies to impose financial penalties on anyone desiring to give up U.S. citizenship, and periodically calls for “global minimum taxes.”

The Curley effect already has inflicted great economic damage on important American cities and states. It now presents an existential threat to our entire country. That one of our major political parties has based its own success on such a ruthlessly cynical strategy is disgusting, if not diabolical. How we get off this suicidal path is one of the most urgent challenges facing us today.

When will this dependency class of Democrats wake up?...When they have to cook the cat for dinner?

Chicago Gangsta Rule For All

Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel, former Chief of Staff in President Barack Obama’s White House, has written an op-ed in the Washington Post advising America, and Democrats in particular, to follow Chicago’s example in designing their policies, arguing that doing so will help the economy and keep Republicans out of office...More at ACGR

If President Obama were to adopt Emanuel’s conservative approach to balancing the budget–and if he were to confront union special interests more aggressively than Emanuel did this fall in the Chicago teachers’ strike–then America would indeed be better off, and the public would be sure to return Democrats to office. But that is not what Obama intends to do, and not what Emanuel recommends, which is little more than a re-hash of Obama’s first-term promises.

Decades of Democratic one-party rule in Chicago have created a nationwide fan base for the Chicago Bears, as people who would have loved to stay in town have chosen, reluctantly, to try their luck elsewhere. The truth is that the nation could use a little less Chicago, and a lot more Wisconsin or Indiana–two Republican-governed neighboring states to which Chicago businesses and residents have been relocating.

Good Thing We Got Mean Old Egyptian Dictator Hosni Mubarak To Relinquish Power

Because newly-minted Egyptian dictator Muhammad Morsi is totally not becoming the new dictator of Egypt.
With a constitutional assembly on the brink of collapse and protesters battling the police in the streets over the slow pace of change, President Mohamed Morsi issued a decree on Thursday granting himself broad powers above any court as the guardian of Egypt’s revolution, and used his new authority to order the retrial of Hosni Mubarak.

Mr. Morsi, an Islamist and Egypt’s first elected president, portrayed his decree as an attempt to fulfill popular demands for justice and protect the transition to a constitutional democracy. But the unexpected breadth of the powers he seized raised immediate fears that he might become a new strongman.
B-b-b-but…youth and revolution and Facebook and stuff.

This #ArabSpringFail has been brought to you by President Barack Obama, who insisted that the relatively reliable American ally Hosni Mubarak get the hell out of Dodge. Why? Because he wasn’t down with the new-fangled 7th century Koran-thumper lingo those Islamofacist hep-cats are all jazzed up about these days.

But hey, maybe we should see how this Egyptian Dictatorship Version 2.0 thing works out before we judge it. I mean, what democratic reform movement doesn’t start out with numerous charges of sexual assault carried out against women counter-protesters and end with legalized female circumcision

That’s how George Washington did it when he wrote the Constitution all by himself back in 1492. And if you dispute that fact, you hate the Founding Fathers. Why are you chugging the anti-American haterade, hater?

I wonder what Mona Eltahawy, the brave defender of free speech when it lines up with her brand of delicate soft-focus socialism, thinks of the enlightened Egyptian autocrats sanctioning genital mutilation for Egyptian girls.

It’s sad that full-time PLO apologist and part-time Columbia University professor Edward Said isn’t alive today. He could’ve written a beautiful 20,000 word propaganda piece about why the Muslim Brotherhood was completely justified in sending out the rape-squads to deal with those lippy female protesters at Tahrir Square.

At least President Barack Obama finally recognizes his error in supporting the Muslim Brotherhood and is now doing everything he can to stop the creation of a new dictatorship in a vital part of the Middle East...(Yeah right)

From King Shamus

“FORE!”

Three days ago Team Obama was gushing over Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood dictator and the president even personally placed a call to him for his so-called efforts at taming the savages in Gaza. So after Thursday’s coup what does Obama do?

EPA Teaching Guide Tells Non-English Speakers to Spy on Neighbors, Workplace

(CNSNews.com)The Environmental Protection Agency has published a teaching guide designed to teach adult non-English speakers the language with a curriculum on environmentalism, including a homework assignment telling students to “observe” their neighbors, school and workplace to see if recycling is taking place.

In the “Teach English, Teach About the Environment,” under the heading “Civic Integration Activity” in the beginner’s level Lesson Plan One on recycling, the following questions are asked:
  1. Ask students to observe whether their neighbors recycle their waste.
  2. Ask students to observe whether the school or their workplace recycles waste material.
  3. Ask at the following class what they observed.
In the same lesson, the homework – or “home support activity” – is to calculate how much each student adds to the “waste stream.”

“Have students weigh themselves on their bathroom scale at home,” the guide states. “Then have them weigh themselves with the bag of household garbage thrown out each day. Multiply the weight difference by seven days, 30 days, and 365 days to get a sense of the amount of garbage generated by each student.”

The teaching guide focused on what the EPA calls the three Rs – recycle, reuse and reduce.

The introduction to the classes for beginner, intermediate and advanced non-English speaking student stated:

“As a teacher of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), you know that your classes are extremely popular with immigrants and long-term visitors to the United States.

“These classes provide not only the opportunity to learn English but can serve as a portal through which many newcomers pass as a first step in integrating themselves into their new communities and American society,” the introduction stated.

A “Note to Instructors” advised them to teach vocabulary using “environmentally-related words.”

Other activities include having students bring “unwanted items” to class so they can exchange or sell them to other students.

“Explain how exchanging is a form of recycling,” an intermediate lesson plan states.

The teaching guide includes photos of things that can be recycled as well as things that harm the environment, such as a picture of products that use “excessive packaging.”

Flashcards are also included in the guide, with messages the students can memorize. Two examples are:

“Recycling glass uses 30 percent less energy” and “Americans average 4.5 pounds of waste a day. This equals 235 million tons a year.”

Attack of the Union Turkeys

The Service International Employees Union – the same union that will be shutting down traffic around Los Angeles International Airport on Thanksgiving Eve – has admitted that a staffer requested that union members stack a legal petition with fake names to sink it. The petition is the brainchild of former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, who wants to put a measure revising public service employee union pensions on the ballot.

Today, SEIU acknowledged that one of its work site organizers had violated the law in order to push its agenda. The SEIU 721 union spokesman explained:

SEIU 721 in no way recommends that its members or anyone else falsify signatures on any petition. We are firmly against that kind of behavior. The email in question was sent without the knowledge of the union’s leadership. The person who sent the email has been disciplined for his action.

According to Thompson, the email probably reached “very few” members. Thompson added that it was sent from a personal, not a work email, and wasn’t an official union communication.

Yeah, right.

Public sector unions including the SEIU have been implicated all over the country in suspicious labor schemes and even voter manipulation efforts. This email, from work site organizer Paul Kim, stated:

We need Union members hitting the streets signing Riordan’s petition with fake names/addresses and gathering retraction signatures from LA residents on our own petition. We need people power starting this Saturday.

The union sent out some 100 organizers on Saturday. The union has not said if anything will happen to Kim. “Paul misspoke and we’re going to rectify that,” said the union rep. “It’s a nonissue and Richard Riordan is just trying to find a way to discredit us.”

This is union thuggery at its finest. And the consequences will be nil – at least with a union-label President and his rubber stamp National Labor Relations Board in power...Breitbart

It's Your Fault

Ben Kinchlow, November 18, 2012

It’s your fault! Yes, yours! Don’t look around, look in the mirror. It’s your fault, you hard-working nine-to-fivers, small business owners, corporate staffs, factory owners and workers. You are to blame for the current state of affairs in America, for the liberal (now “progressive”) oriented 49 percenters who voted Obama in for another four years. You are to blame.

Let’s set the “way back” machine to the “revolution” of the ’60s. Remember? Hippies, free love, “make love, not war,” acid trips, the Jesus movement, sit-ins, etc.; some of us were right in the middle of it. “Yeah, yeah, that was then, this is now. What does that have to do with anything, especially what is going down in America today?” Just everything.

Let me make this short, sweet and to the point for you. This is what happened; yesterday, after the last “toke on the doobie,” the last acid trip and the “Jesus freaks” off in church somewhere, we all started down the road to today.

All you hard-working nine-to-fivers, small and large business owners, corporate staff, factory owners and workers, what did you do? Let me guess – in pursuit of the American dream, you finished school and/or joined the service or went to work or into business. You knew that while there might be a free-love scene (maybe even participated. I mean, it was free, right?), you knew there was no free lunch, and so you hung up your “tie dyes” and went out and hit it.

You had learned from Mom and Pop, Grand-père or friends and relations that, despite the long hair’s rhetoric, there was no free lunch (“You don’t work, you don’t eat”) and besides, “This is still America, the sky is the limit!” So you graduated, grabbed a briefcase or a lunch pail, punched the time clock and got with the program.

Oh yeah, what about the long haired, anti-American, sit-in types? Wonder what happened to them? After all, they weren’t into all this “work hard, succeed and make dreams come true in the land of opportunity” jazz. Well, guess what? They really did believe “your” America was faulty and needed to be changed. None of this “nine-to-five working stiff” jazz for them; they were determined, committed to changing the system. So, while you went into the market place, they went into academia and the media.

While you were at work attempting to make life better and provide college for your kids, they became the teachers and professors in those self-same colleges you were struggling to put your kids through. (Lest some forget, all Ivy League colleges like Yale, Harvard, Princeton, etc., were founded as schools dedicated to educations based on biblical, not religious but transcendent, principles.)

Would you like to hazard a guess as to what many colleges/universities are teaching your kids today? While the president of Fordham University “scolded” a campus group for inviting Ann Coulter (whom they subsequently uninvited) to address the students, Bill Ayers (yes, that Bill Ayers) was warmly welcomed by the staff of an Oregon university campus.

This new “progressivism” (nee liberalism) isn’t really all that new. President Woodrow Wilson is reported to have said the purpose of modern education was “to make men as unlike their fathers as possible.” By the way, did you happen to notice the Democratic National Convention video which proclaimed, “Government is the one thing we all belong to”?

Truth is, it is the other way around: Government belongs to us, not us to the government.

Here is what another individual had to say about the state:

“When there is state, there can be no freedom, but when there is freedom, there will be no state.” (Lenin)

Early feminist Charlotte Perkins Gilman wanted the state to destroy “the unchecked tyranny … of the private home.”

It is interesting to discover that colleges (and the media) are subtly (or not so subtly) indoctrinating your kids with a different worldview. You know, the one that says America is all wrong; that rich isn’t right (unless you are a movie star, rock star or you are endowing leftist college funds); the other rich folks, the “stinking capitalists” (the ones that worked for it) should take care of the less fortunate – you know, the unmarried “baby mamas” and their “baby daddies” (new correct terminology for unmarried women who get knocked up by men they aren’t married to – neither of whom is working, by the way).

A professor at the University of Rochester, in an article widely read by many college students, has argued that Romney’s success in life is based not on hard work, sacrifice and opportunities available to all, but on “privilege” – “white privilege” – and here you thought it was about study, preparation, hard work and commitment.

Of course, you must understand you can’t expect today’s “free thinkers” to work in some unfulfilling job at a measly minimum wage for some “capitalist pig” or learn some demeaning blue-collar skills. Anyway, “Society owes me, the government has all that money, let the fat cats pay a little more. Besides, if the government (you) had paid for my birth control pills, or abortion (you prudes), I wouldn’t be in this mess. It’s all your fault.”

Wonder where this sort of thinking came from? Perhaps these interesting quotes by Vladimir Lenin may give us some additional insight:

Give us the child for 8 years and it will be a Bolshevik forever.

“Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.” as they say south of the border, and now in many Western states, “Que pso?”

That’s what happened. Both of you – husbands and wives – were so busy making a living you had to turn your children’s education and your media over to the “professionals.” From local school boards to the PTA to university faculties, the “pros” took over.

When they took God out of the classroom, we submitted to their wisdom. As they transformed our basic “old fashioned” (American) values into thinly disguised “modern” (socialist/communist) principles, we were too busy watching the “news” and/or Archie Bunker (our favorite replacement for “Father Knows Best”) to notice.

Instead of telling us who we are, they have focused on telling us who we are not. Emphasis was/is on what we do not have, instead of what we do have.

Guess what? If you (and I) don’t step up and begin to take back our “old-fashioned” America and we end up like most of the “new modern” European Common Market countries, guess whose fault that will be.

WND

Here is one fine example of the "fundamental change" we see happening today in America. This is your history as fed by the Left to your children today...

The Boston Tea Party was a Terrorist Attack......according to TX school Curriculum, Cscope

News report: New Act of Terror!

A local militia, believed to be a terrorist organization, attacked the property of private citizens today at our nation’s busiest port.

Although no one was injured in the attack, a large quantity of merchandise, considered to be valuable to its owners and loathsome to the perpetrators, was destroyed.

The terrorists, dressed in disguise and apparently intoxicated, were able to escape into the night with the help of local citizens who harbor these fugitives and conceal their identitiesfrom the authorities.

It is believed that the terrorist attack was a
response to the policies enacted by the occupying country’s
government. Even stronger policies are anticipated by the local citizens.

It's Freaky Black Friday...Shop Till You Drop!

Sung to the tune of
‘Fun,Fun,Fun’ by
The Beach Boys.

..
Well he’s got Hu Daddy’s card
And he cruised to the vote
Buying stand now,
Seems he forgot all about values
Like he told his Uncle Sam now
And with the media worshipping
Goes spending just as fast
As he can now
.
And he’ll have fun fun fun
Till Hu Daddy takes the credit away
And he’ll have fun fun fun
Till Hu Daddy takes the credit away
.
Well the voters can’t stand it
Coz he spends like a
Drunken sailor now,
.
He makes the spending look like
A Roman Emperor disgrace now
A lot of lies try and catch him
But he leads them on a
Wild goose chase now
And he’ll have fun fun fun
Till Hu Daddy takes the credit away
And he’ll have fun fun fun
Till Hu Daddy takes the credit away
.
Well you knew all along
That the voters was gettin’
Wise to you now,
And since you blew through a slew

Of cash thinking your fun
Is all through now,
And you can lie more, it’s true
Cos The Media is asleep in
You’re lap now
And he’ll have fun fun fun
Till Hu Daddy takes his credit away
China will be Number One
Cause Hu took Obama’s credit away
