SPOKANE COUNTY -- Taryn Pemberton was in her Millwood-area home Monday afternoon when she heard her doorbell ringing over and over again.

Pemberton said she figured her neighbor’s child was making the noise.

She peeked out her window and did not see a vehicle in the driveway, but she did notice a man.
Pemberton said that is when her “mother’s intuition” kicked in. She grabbed her 6-month-old daughter, her phone, and her gun, hid in the bathroom and locked the door.

Taryn said she could hear the man break into her home, even though her front door was dead bolted.

“He didn’t stay in the house for very long. I think he must have heard me either rack my gun or me on the phone. Maybe he heard by 6-month-old daughter. I’m not sure what he heard, but he didn’t stay,” Pemberton said.

Within minutes, deputies were all over her property but the man was long gone.

He didn’t steal anything.

Later that night, there was a similar break-in just a few blocks away. The homeowner was also at home at the time.

Detectives believe the same suspect committed both brazen break-ins.

He is described as a white man, about 6’2” with a thin build.

Anyone with information about either crime is asked to call the Spokane County Sheriff’s office.

This is only the beginning of our side getting in their faces, and we can't let up.
