WASHINGTON — Marvin Lyman figured it would be a breeze to fill two charter buses to go from Missouri to Washington for President Barack Obama’s inauguration, just as it was four years ago when Lyman’s phone rang off the hook with people eager to make the trip.

But as December turned to January, the Kansas City restaurateur weighed canceling the trip as he struggled to find enough passengers to fill one 45-seat bus.

“Right now it looks like a group right at 18, so we’re coming,” said Lyman, co-owner of Papa Lew’s soul food restaurant. “In 2009, we had 106 people, we had two 55-passenger buses. It’s definitely not like the first time.”

WASHINGTON (AP) — Planners of President Barack Obama’s second inauguration are soliciting high-dollar contributions up to $1 million to help pay for the celebration in exchange for special access.

The changes are part of a continuing erosion of Obama’s pledge to keep donors and special interests at arm’s length of his presidency. He has abandoned the policy from his first inauguration to accept donations up to only $50,000 from individuals, announcing last month that he would take unlimited contributions from individuals and corporations.

A fundraising appeal obtained by The Associated Press shows the Presidential Inaugural Committee is going far beyond Obama’s previous self-imposed limits and is looking to blow away modern American presidential inauguration fundraising records by offering donors four VIP packages named after the country’s founding fathers.

 

Donors at the “Washington” level are offered “premium partner access” for a minimum donation of $250,000 from individuals and $1 million from corporations. The package includes four tickets to the inaugural ball, an in-demand perk with just two being held this year on inauguration night. Inaugural planners also offered $60 tickets for members of the general public, but they sold out quickly Sunday night. Tickets to the Commander In Chiefs Ball are free for invited members of the military and other guests.

“Make a promise to yourself that you will stop calling rifles ‘assault weapons.’”

 

That’s what Glenn Beck said on his morning radio show Thursday as he discussed AR-15s. But why? Is an AR-15 not an assault rifle? Does the “AR” in AR-15 not stand for “assault rifle”?

 

 

 

 

It doesn’t. In fact, it doesn’t mean “automatic rifle” either, as many might think. AR actually stands for ArmaLite rifle, which is the company that first developed it in the 1950s.

It seems that there is a lot of confusion as to the difference between military rifles and those designed for civilian ownership, especially because of the language often used to describe the latter. The most popular terms to describe the weapons at the center of the recent gun control debate are “military-style” and “assault.” These words have long been used to to describe civilian firearms like the AR-15, but some consider it an inappropriate association that is deliberately being made to “demonize” the guns.

The National Rifle Association on Thursday met with Vice President Joe Biden and the gun violence task force created by President Barack Obama to address gun-related violent crime. As you may have expected, the NRA and the Obama administration didn’t agree on much.

In a statement released shortly after Thursday’s meeting, the NRA said it was “disappointed with how little” the meeting “had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment.” Read the entire statement below (emphasis added):

The National Rifle Association of America is made up of over 4 million moms and dads, daughters and sons, who are involved in the national conversation about how to prevent a tragedy like Newtown from ever happening again. We attended today’s White House meeting to discuss how to keep our children safe and were prepared to have a meaningful conversation about school safety, mental health issues, the marketing of violence to our kids and the collapse of federal prosecutions of violent criminals.

 

We were disappointed with how little this meeting had to do with keeping our children safe and how much it had to do with an agenda to attack the Second Amendment. While claiming that no policy proposals would be “prejudged,” this Task Force spent most of its time on proposed restrictions on lawful firearms owners – honest, taxpaying, hardworking Americans. It is unfortunate that this Administration continues to insist on pushing failed solutions to our nation’s most pressing problems. We will not allow law-abiding gun owners to be blamed for the acts of criminals and madmen. Instead, we will now take our commitment and meaningful contributions to members of congress of both parties who are interested in having an honest conversation about what works – and what does not.

 

On Wednesday, the vice president hinted that Obama may take “executive action” to crack down on firearms.

 

Biden and the task force will reportedly submit a list of proposals to the president by Tuesday. After that, “president is going to act,” according to Biden.

My Hero Has Passed Away

 

I am taking a break from my normal postings, rants, and satire today.

I have lost one of my dearest and most respected family members over the holidays.

 

My uncle Gene Gillespie has passed on over the holidays; on December 22nd.

 

This man has accomplished everything that I could aspire to in one lifetime. His family has been given the best that a military man in his position could offer.

 

 

Gene was Air Force Special Forces. He was the flight line Tech. Sgt. in the late 60's and served valiantly through three tours in Viet Nam. He told the Colonels what flew in and out and what didn't.

 

Gene Gillespie was also a Tunnel Rat. He went where most men refused to go and saved hundreds of lives in the process.

 

While on a recon mission, he saved one platoon from certain destruction and received the highest award given to a man of his position at the time. LBJ and Lady Bird presented this to Gene personally.

 

I cannot tell you of the many courageous acts that this man accomplished in his storied carrer in the service of his country. Many of these missions were classified, and involved trecs into Laos and Cambodia. That is enough said.

 

If you have a moment today, please offer a prayer to this man and his family. We may never see his like again in this world of ours.

The White House is weighing a far-reaching package of legislation that would tighten restrictions on firearm sales and ownership by requiring universal background checks for gun buyers and creating a national database to track the weapons.

…The database would require that guns be registered or permitted.

Egypt Independent reported:

The North Sinai Security Director seized a shipment of advanced anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles at dawn on Friday.
 

The directorate received a tip that the missiles were being secretly stored in a repository in Be’r al-Hefn — just south of Arish, the capital of North Sinai — and would be smuggled through tunnels to the Gaza Strip, said a security source.

After informing the Interior Ministry in Cairo, two assistants to the interior minster led a large formation of police in a raid on the area. Be’r al-Hefn has often been used as an illegal storage area for explosives and weapons.

“With the help of secret informants, the police found the storage site, where they found six US-made advanced missiles inside large holes in the ground [that were waiting to be] smuggled to the Gaza Strip through tunnels,” the source said.

He said the shipment likely originated in Libya, and that the range of the rockets was 2 km.

That US-made weapons are finding their way from Libya should be of grave concern for American security officials. Presumably these are weapons provided by the Obama administration to the Libyan rebels in their fight against Gaddafi in 2011.

 

US weapons have also made their way to Syria via Libya with active US assistance according to reports. In October, Russia accused the US of sending Stinger anti-aircraft missiles to Syria, a claim that Defense Secretary Panetta denied.

 

Back in August I noted here at PJ Media the New York Times caught scrubbing one of its stories of any mention of CIA funneling arms to the Syrian rebels.

We, the People of these United States, rightfully petition our national government to investigate and indict John Kerry for "giving aid and comfort to the enemy" and to disqualify him for national office.

Barack Hussein Obama has announced his nomination of Mr. Kerry for the position of Secretary of State, a post for which Mr. Kerry is wholly unqualified to represent the best interests of the United States.

Kerry has a long and well-documented history of providing "aid and comfort" to the enemy in time of war -- particularly in the case of North Vietnam, Nicaragua and Cuba. Kerry, by his own account of his actions and protests, violated the UCMJ, the Geneva Conventions and the U.S. Code while serving as a Navy officer. Kerry met, on two occasions, with North Vietnamese negotiators in 1970 and 1971, willingly placing himself in violation of Article three, Section three of the U.S. Constitution, which defines treason as "giving aid and comfort" to the enemy in time of warfare.

Thus, in accordance with the Constitution's Fourteenth Amendment, Section 3, which states, "No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President ... having previously taken an oath ... to support the Constitution of the United States, [who has] engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof," We, the People of these United States, believe John F. Kerry is unfit for public office.

It is for this reason -- for his record of giving aid and comfort to the enemy while a member of the U.S. Armed Forces in violation of this oath -- that Senator Kerry should be prosecuted and disqualified for national office.

We understand that action on this petition will be difficult to achieve given that the Executive Branch and Senate are controlled by Mr. Kerry's Democrat Party. Be it known, however, that we will pursue justice in the case of Mr. Kerry's acts of treason at time of war with Vietnam. We are thus committed to holding Mr. Kerry accountable for his actions, as there is no statute of limitations for acts of treason.

• Step One: Stop!

If you find yourself confronted by a liberal outbreak your first instinct will be to look for an exit. However, the exits might already be blocked by a socialist who will be handing out Che Guevara t shirts. Do not panic! Immediately stand still. Cease any movement. Liberals, like dinosaurs, can only see moving objects.

• Step Two: Drop!

If you find yourself in the mist of a liberal outbreak drop to the ground, covering your face with your hands. By doing this you confuse the liberal. Also the oxygen will be thicker closer to the ground decreasing your chance of suffocating from progressive rhetoric.

• Step Three: Roll!

The victim of a liberal outbreak must roll on the ground in an attempt to brush off the socialist rhetoric. This will also have the added benefit of extinguishing the liberal by depriving him of oxygen. If you are on a rug or one is nearby try rolling the rug around yourself to further extinguish the liberal flames.

Just follow these steps and you increase your chances of survival in the liberal apocalypse. Also, these techniques may be enhanced by telling a liberal that “Jesus loves them.“ Jesus is liberal kryptonite.

What needs to happen here is, a van full of people from out of town, need to expend a little justice to all involved....1 by 1.....

 

On August 11, students from Steubenville High School or “Big Red” as it is known locally, attended various end of the summer parties in the Ohio Valley. That night while in attendance at a party that was allegedly held at a COACH’s home, underage students were drinking to celebrate the end of the summer. For many in attendance, it was the end of their high school journey and they were moving on to attend various colleges. 

I do not have all the facts, and have read many accounts of what transpired, but the end result was a young girl was brutally raped and attacked by members of the Steubenville High football team and it was videotaped and posted on the internet. I am not solely pointing the finger at the football team because there were boys who took part in this attack who were also on the wrestling team, baseball team and track teams. The point is these boys represented the school and their respective teams. Playing high school sports is not a right. It is a privilege and with that privilege comes a higher responsibility to represent yourself and your school in a manner that will not taint the reputation of your school. Athletes should be role models for other students, and in this case – they were not.

The student athletes who participated are not the only ones guilty of disseminating the attack of a defenseless girl, but the students who saved the video to their cellphones or who retweeted and reposted the video attack and talked inappropriately about the victim are just as guilty of smearing the reputation of their school, as well as guilty of disseminating criminal material. So, in a nutshell YES this behavior represents their school and will have long running implications on every student who has ever attended Big Red. Big Red will now forever be known as that high school where the kids who raped that girl attended. 

 
I have seen much victim blaming from these kids as well as adults. Every time someone posts a comment about why was she at this party or didn’t her parents teach her any better - is revictimizing the victim. Many seem not to care that she was victimized by these kids only that the ones who took part are still suiting up each week to play football. I have seen posts where adults are stating this may be a “false accusation” and comparing it to the Duke Lacrosse team rape allegations. She was PASSED OUT! How in the world did she have a say in what was going on? I can ASSURE you that these boys KNEW what they did was rape. One of them tweeted the Nirvana video “Rape Me” after the other said the song of the night should be “rape me”.

Associate Assistant Attorney General Brian Deckert replaces Jennifer Brumby on the prosecution team. Deckert joins Marianne Hemmeter, who remains on the case.
