More "Progressive" Bigotry

These remarks by the unpopular Governor Beverly Purdue are reminiscent of those made by Arlen Specter concerning his former constituents. When the will of the people is upheld through a lawful vote, they must be thrown down and under the bus!

 

Greenville, NC (WITN) -- North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue says Tuesday's passage of Amendment One makes the state look like Mississippi. Perdue made the remarks in response to a question from WITN's Brittany Gunter while in Greenville Friday morning...Video Here

On Tuesday, 61% of the state's voters approved the constitutional amendment which bans same sex marriages. State law already prohibits gay marriages.

The governor, a Democrat who said leading up to the vote that she was against the amendment, told WITN that the result is wrong for the state.

"People around the country are watching us, and they're really confused to have been such a progressive forward thinking economically driven state that invested in education and that stood up for the civil rights people including the civil rights marches back in the 50s and 60s and 70s," said Perdue. "People are saying what in the world is going on with North Carolina, we look like Mississippi."

Perdue, who lives in New Bern, decided earlier this year not to seek a second term.
Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant says he is disappointed by Perdue's remarks. "Certainly, the comments from the North Carolina governor were very disappointing," said Bryant. "To be able to use Mississippi in a disparaging way on a popular vote in her own state is, I think, something that's certainly petty and something I think she will reflect on and hopefully apologize for those types of remarks."

The Republican governor says he has met Perdue and says he plans to write her about the remarks.

Perdue, who lives in New Bern, decided earlier this year not to seek a second term.

In stark contrast to prior Obama administration statements, Illinois Democratic Rep. Luis Gutierrez told The Daily Caller that he and the National Council of La Raza were deeply involved in the crafting and implementation of a controversial Obama administration memo that many conservatives believe amounts to a policy of amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants.

President Obama, Gutierrez said, told him in December 2010 that comprehensive immigration reform could not be achieved legislatively because of fears Democrats would lose future elections. Instead, he said, the president suggested exploring administrative options to accomplish their mutual goals. (RELATED: White House loosens border rules for 2012)

The memo, written by Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director John Morton in June 2011, established priorities for tracking and removing suspected illegal aliens. It directed his agency to focus only on illegal immigrants who pose a threat to national security and endanger public safety.

ICE, Morton wrote, would provide no resources to tracking other illegal immigrants now and in the future — extending them a sort of administrative amnesty, and removing all threat of deportation, unless they committed a serious crime.

A UN human rights official is urging the U.S. to turn over control of lands considered to be sacred to Native Americans, including the site of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial.

James Anaya, the UN special rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples, unveiled his recommendations in Geneva on Friday after completing a 12-day visit to the U.S. where he met with representatives of indigenous peoples in six states.

The fact-finder also had a chance to meet members of the Obama administration and briefed the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, but no member of Congress agreed to meet with him. 'I have heard stories that make evident the profound hurt that indigenous peoples continue to feel because of the history of oppression they have faced,' Mr Anaya said in a statement.

Google And Your NSA CONTROLLERS

The top-secret US National Security Agency is not required to reveal any deal it may have with Google to help protect against cyber attacks, an appeals court ruled Friday.

The US Court of Appeals in Washington upheld a lower court decision that said the NSA need not confirm or deny any relationship with Google, because its governing statutes allow it keep such information secret.
 
The ruling came in response to a Freedom of Information Act request from a public interest group, which said the public has a right to know about any spying on citizens.

The appeals court agreed that the NSA can reject the request, and does not even have to confirm whether it has any arrangement with the Internet giant.

"Any information pertaining to the relationship between Google and NSA would reveal protected information about NSA's implementation of its information assurance mission," Judge Janice Rogers Brown wrote in the appeals opinion...More at Yahoo News

Under construction by contractors with top-secret clearances, the blandly named Utah Data Center is being built for the National Security Agency. A project of immense secrecy, it is the final piece in a complex puzzle assembled over the past decade. Its purpose: to intercept, decipher, analyze, and store vast swaths of the world’s communications as they zap down from satellites and zip through the underground and undersea cables of international, foreign, and domestic networks.

The heavily fortified $2 billion center should be up and running in September 2013. Flowing through its servers and routers and stored in near-bottomless databases will be all forms of communication, including the complete contents of private emails, cell phone calls, and Google searches, as well as all sorts of personal data trails—parking receipts, travel itineraries, bookstore purchases, and other digital “pocket litter.”

It is, in some measure, the realization of the “total information awareness” program created during the first term of the Bush administration—an effort that was killed by Congress in 2003 after it caused an outcry over its potential for invading Americans’ privacy.

But “this is more than just a data center,” says one senior intelligence official who until recently was involved with the program. The mammoth Bluffdale center will have another important and far more secret role that until now has gone unrevealed. It is also critical, he says, for breaking codes. And code-breaking is crucial, because much of the data that the center will handle—financial information, stock transactions, business deals, foreign military and diplomatic secrets, legal documents, confidential personal communications—will be heavily encrypted.

According to another top official also involved with the program, the NSA made an enormous breakthrough several years ago in its ability to cryptanalyze, or break, unfathomably complex encryption systems employed by not only governments around the world but also many average computer users in the US. The upshot, according to this official: “Everybody’s a target; everybody with communication is a target.”

Which Crook Do I Vote For?

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Just how unpopular is President Barack Obama in some parts of the country? Enough that a man in prison in Texas got 4 out of 10 votes in West Virginia’s Democratic presidential primary.

The inmate, Keith Judd, is serving time at the Beaumont Federal Correctional Institution in Texas for making threats at the University of New Mexico in 1999. Obama received 59 percent of the vote to Judd’s 41 percent.

For some West Virginia Democrats, simply running against Obama is enough to get Judd votes.

“I voted against Obama,” said Ronnie Brown, a 43-year-old electrician from Cross Lanes who called himself a conservative Democrat. “I don’t like him. He didn‘t carry the state before and I’m not going to let him carry it again.”

When asked which presidential candidate he voted for, Brown said, “That guy out of Texas.”
Judd was able to get on the state ballot by paying a $2,500 fee and filing a form known as a notarized certification of announcement, said Jake Glance, a spokesman for the Secretary of State’s office...More at The Blaze

The saga of hardcore socialist and Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren’s laughable claims to be part-Indian, for the purposes of accessing various academic diversity benefits, took a serious turn on Sunday when Robert Maginn, chair of the Massachusetts Republican Party (and himself a Harvard graduate) wrote the university president to demand an investigation into Warren’s apparent “academic fraud.”...(snip)

The great-great-great grandfather of Elizabeth Warren - who has long claimed to be part Native American - was not married to a Cherokee but actually rounded them up for the Trail of Tears, it has been claimed.

But the Senate hopeful has dismissed the embarrassing reports as 'politics as usual', and has brushed off calls for her to prove she did not use her questionable heritage to further her law career.

The denial comes after an article on Breitbart.com claimed Warren's ancestor Jonathan Crawford was a member of the Tennessee Militia who rounded up Cherokees from their family homes.

  He then apparently herded them into government-built stockades at Ross's Landing, the starting point of the Trail of Tears - along which as many of 6,000 Native Americans died - in January 1837.

Crawford was apparently part of a volunteer militia between 1835 and 1836 under Brigadier General R. G. Dunlap.

Parents Of The Year

A father-of-three and mother-of-one were arrested in Fort Wayne, Indiana, after driving from a liquor store with their children on top of the car.

Fort Wayne Police received an emergency call at 5:30 local time reporting that a male and a female had tied four small children to the hood with a tow strap and were driving from a shop called Belmont Beverage.

The children, aged four, five, six and seven appeared unharmed and were quoted in local paper Indiana's News Center Now saying they had said yes to riding on the roof because 'it sounded like fun'.

The four children were strapped to the roof of this car which was stopped by police on its way from a liquor store in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Luckily none of the children were hurt

The man has been arrested for operating while intoxicated and the woman was taken into police custody for questioning.

INC Now also reported witnesses saying that after the irresponsible couple were pulled over, the woman began to leave and disposed of a cup she had in her hand.

Child Protective Services were also called to the scene and are currently investigating possible child neglect.

The man's former partner and mother of his three children, named only as Sarah, said she was 'livid and in shock' and that the children would no longer get to see their dad.

'If I knew their father was going to do this I never would've let them go with him.'

(ABC News) — President Barack Obama hosted a Cinco de Mayo party at the White House — “even though it’s only tres de mayo, we just like to get the fiesta started early around here” — and promised to push for a comprehensive overhaul of America’s immigration policies if he’s reelected.

“There’s still plenty of unfinished business, including fixing our broken immigration system,” he said. “It’s long past the time that we unleash the promise of all our young people and make the DREAM Act a reality.”

Mitt Romney has vowed to veto the legislation, which would allow some undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children to stay on American soil legally, provided they have a clean record and graduate from high school or serve in the military. Republican Senator Marco Rubio has also pushed a version of the measure that would provide temporary, non-immigrant visas.

“No is not an option, I want to sign the DREAM Act into law!” Obama said. “I’ve got the pens all ready, I’m willing to work with anybody who’s serious to get this done, and to achieve bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform that solves this challenge once and for all.”...More From ZIP
